I have used Intel processors for years in addition to a Cyrix (dead now) and a few AMD processors. As a general rule my applications are not that demanding, except for voice recognition. I have not had problems with any of those processors. I am primarily an AMD fan, not because I can tell a difference in performance, but because I tend to support the underdog.

I've always used AMD. My first two machines where pentium 133mhz, since then I've used em all K6, K7, and now K8.
I love Athlon MP, still use those a lot. You can beat them in dual configuration on a TYAN board.
CPU im AMD, motherboard im TYAN, memory im CORSAIR.

CPU- AMD
Motherboard- ASUS
Memory- Kingstong Tech.

why not? I have had to readjust the speed several times on my processor when that happened. good thing it was threw the BIOS 2. :D

lol, on my machine I just have to overclock to 2.2 GHz then it crashes. it sux though because the stock frequency is 2.0 GHz... not much of an overclock.

in my HP I have an AMD Athlon XP 3200+, in the family computer that is a custom built I have a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and in my computer I have a AMD Sempron 3100+. All pretty fast, they lag at times because they are running Windows XP... Except for my Sempron... I have several OSes on that... Xandros Home Edition 4.0/Premium, XP Pro SP2, Vista, and waiting for Solaris.

AMD, I have a XP2500 that is rock solid. I have used them forever.

AMD ALL THE WAY! My current box runs an AMD Athlon XP 2800+, and I LOVE IT.
I must say though, the Intel Core 2 Duo's look pretty sweet. I tried a couple notebooks yesterday that had 1.66Ghz Core 2's in them, and in Vista they just chugged along no problem. So the way I see it, if the lower clocked Core 2's can handle Vista in its overbloated stupidly designed glory, they can handle all kinds of things
.....the HP notebook I am going to buy will still have AMD though

These are the processors I've had:
Intel 400 MHz Celeron
Intel P3-800
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (current)
I sold the Celeron a long time ago, and the P3-800 is in another box right now. I also just sold the 3000+.
I do have another whole box (AMD K7) I picked up at a yard sale for $5.
I love my AMD. Most benchmarks at Tom's Hardware put the Intel Core 2 Quad at the top, but we'll see what AMD does with their quad later this year.

I am not a MAC fan but I will honestly say this... I will not buy a MAC if it has an Intel Processor in it... doesnt have the power. I used a G5 in school and it was pretty quick... it had a PPC in there. If I were to ever buy or get a MAC I would love to have it have a PPC Processor in it because of the speed and power.
well then you missed your mac opportunity, as the ppc is done.
i will say that we use the new xeon macs daily, and they are superior to the old ones.
If the company you work for ever gets rid of any of the MACs would it possible to ship one up to me? It will be for learning reasons, not so much screwing around.

The dual-dual core Xeon macs are incredible. Two weeks ago I just helped my dad hook up a store stock quad Xeon (2.66 Ghz) and after setting up some medical videos and vacation slideshows we watched it encode 15 gigs of hi-def quicktime in a little over 5 minutes... with only 1Gig of ram!!!
Can't wait to move into my house this spring. I need one for myself :P
N.B. having owned PPC and Core2 macs myself, the core2s smoke the PPCs

IBM still sells ppc based pc's, it's kinda funny that they made the mac processors, and yet most people referred to regular pc's as "IBM" and Mac's as "Apple" i always kinda found that funny, anyways, i would love to buy one of these ibm ppc based machines

Okay, I love my PPC processors in my MAC's...
And while yes the AMD (Which would be my second choice) does overclock better than Intel's.....
The Champion for total overclocking is Intel (right now)
When I find the article I'll post. :o

yea, i'm a die hard intel fan, like sharaz, but i would love to someday have a risc processor jsut because they're extremel powerful. i would never buy another "normal" processor except for an intel, but i don't consider the RISC processors "normal"
by the way, the poll wouldn't let me do more than 4 choices, cuz i woulda put PPC in there
What brand of processor do u like?
hard choice... its a tie between the AMD and the RISC

im a died-in-the-war intel user all the way. ive only owned 2 amd machines in my day (and ive probably owned 50 or more systems in the past 10 years), but those 2 amds were freebies (pulled from the dumpster, i might add).
dont bother trying to change my opinion, anyone. i look at my point of view from the business machines aspect, and could care less how fast an amd can run a game (right before the system overheats). :D
Processors!!!
Ok, what brand of processor do u like the best?
