When Lintel beats Wintel

So what’s the bottom line reality here? simple: Lintel is always cheaper than Wintel to get into, but it usually only wins on long term TCO where the applications, like Apache and Firefox, lead Microsoft’s and, conversely, it loses on long term TCO where the applications, like StarOffice and Gnome, follow Microsoft’s lead.

Yep, Lintel certainly isnt going to win any matches when it comes to general purpose desktop usage. Our shift to a web-based desktop is helping but most businesses still rely on vertical apps that were made for Windows, and most businesses don't want to mess around with trying to shove a round peg in a square hole by doing emulation/virtualization at the desktop yet.
